Who do YOU listen to???

Posted by | 2 Comments »

Now, before all you grammarians blast out your emails – I KNOW it should be “to whom do you listen” – but that just wasn’t as catchy.  But, I digress Smile

Any who . . . . let me as ya . . . .

What was your biggest obstacle in getting started in your real estate business?

Calling motivated sellers?

Analyzing deals?

Finding funding?

Vetting buyers?

Sub-2’s?

Lease Options?

Wholesales?

Would you believe….NONE of the above?  That’s right . . .none, zip, nada!

Why?

Because there are SEVERAL gurus out there who can teach you all there is to know and then some about every single one of the above mentioned topics.  Just ask ’em if it ain’t so….

No, the biggest obstacle in getting started in real estate (or any other business for that matter) is trying to figure out WHOM to listen to.  There are a lot of folks claiming to be able to teach you about all of the various aspects of real estate investing.

So, who do you trust?  Who should you spend your time and money with?

If you make a mistake in this area, you could be out BIG BUCKS with NOTHING to show for it.

So what do you do?  How do you decide who to trust?  How do you make the RIGHT decision on who to select for a coach or mentor?

Here are some points to consider:

Does the person DO what they TEACH?

Are they a “do-ru” and not just a “gu-ru“?  You don’t want to deal with someone who teaches something, but has never done it themselves.

Google is your friend.

Go online and check them out.  Google their name.  See what turns up.  Read their blogs, check them out on Facebook.  Follow them on twitter.  This should give you a feel for them as an individual and give you an idea of whether or not there might be a “fit.”  Do they sound as though they “know their stuff?”

Are their claims outrageous?

All of us would LOVE to hit the jackpot. It would be nice to get a check for $100K (or even $50K) within the next 30 days.  And some of you just might…but that is the exception rather than the rule.  Anyone claiming that you can get rich overnight, or that you can close all you deals while sitting on the beach sipping beverages  containing small umbrellas is simply not be upfront with you.  Real estate investing takes work, so don’t be fooled.

What does your GUT tell you?

When you talk to the person (and before spending BIG BUCKS for coaching, you should), do they resonate with you?  Do you see yourself working with this person?  Do they ask what your goals and objectives are?  Or is it all about them?  When you read their website or blog, what FEEL do you get?

You can’t ALWAYS trust your feelings, but you should certainly CONSIDER them. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s probably because it’s NOT right.

And, there you have it. This is what I think you should consider before making your choice of who to trust and who to learn from!

Who do YOU listen to?  And WHY?

    Bill,

I absolutely LOVE this post. I was just talking about
this exact thing on a home-based business forum.

Everyone was posting telling this guy what to do and
of course they were mostly making unrealistic claims.

I posted to the guy telling him there is no magic
pill, there’s no magic potion in a bottle, no
push button, automatic system thats’ going to
make you filthy rich like all of these people
    want you to believe.

You have to actually work! Maybe a lil, maybe
a lot…but you have to put in effort and work.

I’m sure they LOVE me on that forum now.
But hey, I never said I come with B.S. lol

Thanks Carey! And good for you for telling it like it is when others were feeding that guy a line of BS. You are so right about having to work. Anyone telling you that you are going to become a millionaire while sitting on a beach sipping drinks that have little umbrellas is just not being up front with ya. 🙂
